National Park and Ibo Governmental Fees
Once arrived on Ibo we have to charge you entry fees to the Quirimbas National Park. At the time of writing these fees are 200 Mt per person. We will give you a receipt that is valid for the rest of your life or until the rules change. The national park has a lot of other charges that are not yet enforced (snorkelling 200mt!!!) however we don’t know what we can’t see. And once on Ibo there is a governmental levy of 50Mt that will be collected by Junior the official tourist guide and local know all. This fee is used to restore and upkeep the historical buildings you will visit.
Central Electrica
Ibo has a city generator that provides power from 5 p.m. till 10 p.m. However, it is not always reliable and it is not unheard off that the city is without power for a few months. A few private organisations run their generator at certain times during the day, An unfortunate consequence of cheap Chinese petrol generators now available to the public is the uncontrollable spread of “barracas” that sell cheap papaya wine and pump loud music….the rest of the time is rather peaceful. For those who are expecting the busy nightlife of Maputo, we will have to be disappointing: On Ibo there is not much happening at night except from stargazing at the milky way and millions of stars you can spot without all the light pollution!
